About the Role
The Health and Nutrition Community Mobilization Assistant will work under the supervision of the Health and Nutrition Community Mobilization Officer and play an important role in implementing community-based health and nutrition activities.
The successful candidate will help strengthen the capacity of Community Health Volunteers and support them in identifying, referring and following up cases within targeted communities. The role will also involve community sensitisation and health education, helping ensure that communities understand and participate in health and nutrition interventions.
The position will be particularly important in strengthening links between communities, volunteers, programme teams and partners.
Key Responsibilities
The Community Mobilization Assistant will support activities across villages within programme catchment areas. Responsibilities include:
- Sensitising communities about health and nutrition activities and encouraging community participation.
- Supporting communities to identify Community Health and Nutrition Volunteers, Mother-to-Mother Support Group Leaders and iCCM volunteers.
- Helping communities identify suitable volunteers where these are not already available.
- Supporting the development of training modules and appropriate teaching materials.
- Assisting Community Health Volunteers in organising their activities.
- Supporting regular health and nutrition screening sessions.
- Assisting volunteers with community awareness and education sessions.
- Supporting follow-up of cases at household level, including new admissions and defaulters.
- Providing volunteers with appropriate work materials, kits and referral documentation.
- Developing community health and nutrition workplans in coordination with supervisors.
- Maintaining close coordination with field teams, communities and partners.
- Supporting the development of effective and diverse health education messages.
- Strengthening communication between community volunteers, programme staff and communities.
- Documenting lessons learned, achievements and successful approaches.
- Preparing accurate weekly and monthly reports on mobilised villages and referrals.
- Conducting monthly meetings with Community Health Volunteers to review challenges and plan upcoming activities.
The position will also support the organisation’s counter-fraud and ethical controls, ensuring compliance with donor and legal requirements.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should have a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Nutrition, Midwifery, Nursing or an equivalent field.
Candidates are expected to have approximately 3–4 years of experience in social work, community development or community mobilisation, with a medical background required to support iCCM-related responsibilities.
Important skills and experience include strong interpersonal and communication skills, diplomacy, negotiation abilities and the capacity to establish effective relationships with communities and colleagues.
Experience in training facilitation, protection and community development will also be valuable. Candidates should be self-motivated, able to work under pressure and capable of representing Save the Children in meetings with government officials and other stakeholders.
