About the Global Health Team

The Gates Foundation’s Global Health division uses advances in science and technology to address major health challenges affecting developing countries. Its work includes HIV/AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis, neglected tropical diseases, enteric and diarrheal diseases and pneumonia.

The Foundation’s TB/HIV programme focuses on the research, development and delivery of new products and tools. It also works to expand access to high-quality and affordable diagnostic technologies, including digital chest X-rays, molecular testing and HIV diagnostics.

About the Role

The Senior Program Officer will work within the Evidence and Analytics Unit, leading efforts to advance digital health and AI applications across HIV and TB programmes.

The successful candidate will help develop innovative AI tools, support programmatic deployment, design sustainable self-care models and coordinate the introduction of prevention products. They will also help integrate AI into HIV and TB delivery teams and ensure that technological innovation remains aligned with global health priorities.

The role reports to the Deputy Director and involves close collaboration with global and country teams, external stakeholders and different Foundation programme teams.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Program Officer will lead the development of digital health and AI tools for HIV and TB prevention, treatment and adherence programmes.

Key responsibilities include:

Developing AI and digital health solutions for HIV and TB programmes.
Integrating AI into existing and new programme strategies.
Designing scalable self-care solutions for patients and healthcare providers.
Developing consumer- and provider-facing digital tools.
Coordinating prevention product introductions with country and product strategy teams.
Developing a digital health and AI framework for HIV and TB delivery.
Addressing ethical, regulatory and monitoring considerations around AI.
Identifying and managing strategic investments in digital health and AI.
Engaging stakeholders at global and country levels.
Representing HIV and TB delivery teams on the Foundation’s AI Taskforce.
Developing metrics and evidence-generation plans to measure impact.
Supporting digital tools for HIV and TB epidemiological surveillance.
Promoting AI solutions that improve access to quality healthcare and strengthen health-system resilience.

The role will also require the successful candidate to remain current with advances in AI and data science and ensure that technological solutions remain aligned with programme objectives.

Qualifications and Experience

This is a senior-level position requiring an advanced degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Public Health or a related field.

Candidates should have at least 10 years of experience in applied data science, AI or a related technical field, together with strong experience in global health programming, ideally involving HIV and TB.

The Foundation is seeking proven expertise in developing AI models, digital products, machine learning, modelling and data analytics solutions. Experience applying these technologies to healthcare and public health is particularly important.

Applicants should also understand HIV and TB prevention, treatment and adherence programmes and have experience working with global and country-level stakeholders.

Knowledge of AI ethics, data governance, regulatory requirements and monitoring and evaluation is required. Experience working in low- and middle-income countries and an understanding of global health systems are also important.

The successful candidate should demonstrate strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, collaboration and innovation skills.

Salary and Benefits

The listed salary range is $212,800 to $329,800 per year, with a higher range of $234,000 to $362,800 applicable to certain high-wage locations. Actual salary placement depends on skills, experience and expertise.
