The Europe Programme Officer – Balkans opportunity with the International Detention Coalition (IDC) is a regional/global role supporting migration, asylum and human rights programmes across the Balkans and wider Europe.

The position can be performed remotely, but applicants must reside in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia or Serbia.

About the Role

The Europe Programme Officer – Balkans will work closely with the Europe Regional Manager to support IDC’s regional programmes, events and advocacy strategies.

The role combines programme coordination, advocacy, research, communications, stakeholder engagement and administrative support.

IDC is a global network of more than 200 civil society organisations and individuals working across more than 75 countries to eliminate immigration detention and promote rights-based alternatives to detention.

Key Responsibilities

The Programme Officer will support:

  • Implementation of national and regional projects.
  • Advocacy strategies relating to immigration detention and migrant and refugee rights.
  • Engagement with governments and civil society organisations.
  • Development of advocacy and communications materials.
  • Research and evidence gathering.
  • Fundraising activities.
  • Monitoring, evaluation and reporting.
  • Regional events and programme activities.
  • Operational and administrative coordination.

The position also requires travel within the Balkans and wider Europe.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should have:

  • A university degree in international relations, law, migration studies, political science or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in project coordination, stakeholder engagement and advocacy relating to migration or human rights.
  • Knowledge of the European and Western Balkans context.
  • Direct advocacy experience with governments and civil society in the Balkans and/or EU institutions.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Ability and willingness to travel within the region.

Salary and Contract

The position offers compensation of €30,000–€40,000 per year, depending on location and experience.
