The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is inviting applications for the AI & Digital Innovation Internship 2026 based in Banjul, The Gambia. This six-month internship offers students and recent graduates an opportunity to gain practical experience supporting UNICEF’s digital transformation and innovation initiatives while contributing to programmes that improve the lives of children and young people.

The internship is ideal for candidates passionate about artificial intelligence, digital innovation, data analysis, automation, and technology for development, providing valuable exposure to one of the world’s leading humanitarian organizations.

About the UNICEF AI & Digital Innovation Internship

UNICEF operates in more than 190 countries and territories, working to protect children’s rights and improve access to health, education, nutrition, child protection, water and sanitation, and other essential services.

In The Gambia, UNICEF collaborates with government and development partners to improve outcomes for children and adolescents while promoting meaningful youth participation, digital transformation, and innovative solutions to development challenges.

The AI & Digital Innovation Internship supports UNICEF’s efforts to strengthen innovation, responsible AI adoption, digital knowledge management, and technology-driven programme delivery.

Internship Location

  • Duty Station: Banjul, The Gambia

Internship Duration

  • Six (6) months

Internship Responsibilities

Successful interns will contribute to UNICEF’s digital innovation initiatives while gaining practical experience in areas such as:

  • Artificial Intelligence applications
  • Digital innovation

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants should:

  • Be currently enrolled in, or have recently completed, an undergraduate or postgraduate degree.

Language Requirements
