About the Global Policy & Advocacy Division

The position sits within the Global Policy & Advocacy (GPA) Division, whose mission is to shape policy discussions, strengthen partnerships, mobilize resources, and advance solutions that accelerate progress across global health, development, and gender equality.

Within GPA, the Philanthropic Partnerships Team (PPT) focuses on mobilizing philanthropic capital and building long-term partnerships that help address pressing global challenges.

Position Summary

The Senior Officer, Africa, Global Partnership Development will lead the Foundation’s engagement strategy with African philanthropists and institutional partners.

The role focuses on identifying, cultivating, and managing high-value partnerships capable of supporting large-scale development programmes across Africa.

Working closely with Foundation leadership, regional offices, country teams, and technical programme staff, the successful candidate will help strengthen Africa’s philanthropic ecosystem while increasing investments in global health and development.

The position is based in Nairobi, Kenya, and applicants must already have legal authorization to work in Kenya, as visa sponsorship is not available.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Develop and implement the Foundation’s African philanthropy strategy.
  • Build relationships with ultra-high-net-worth individuals (UHNWIs), family offices, corporate philanthropies, and private foundations.
  • Design and negotiate complex partnership agreements.
  • Mobilize philanthropic funding for global health and development initiatives.
  • Identify new funding opportunities and strategic partnerships.
  • Collaborate with programme teams across Africa and globally.
  • Coordinate multi-stakeholder partnerships across different sectors.
  • Support Giving Pledge engagement and philanthropic leadership initiatives.
  • Represent the Foundation at regional and international forums.
  • Work closely with communications and advocacy teams.
  • Maintain partnership pipelines and relationship management systems.
  • Track partnership performance and prepare strategic reports.

Required Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or an advanced qualification in a relevant field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • At least 7 years of experience in partnership development, fundraising, business development, investment, philanthropy, or strategic relationship management.
  • Strong understanding of African philanthropy, corporate giving, and civil society.
  • Experience managing relationships with high-net-worth individuals, family offices, foundations, or institutional donors.
  • Proven success securing significant financial commitments or strategic partnerships.
  • Experience coordinating complex multi-partner initiatives.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong analytical, strategic planning, and relationship management abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

The Foundation also values candidates with:

  • Existing networks within African philanthropy and business communities.
  • Experience in blended finance or impact investing.
  • Knowledge of global health and development priorities.
  • Familiarity with the Giving Pledge or similar philanthropic initiatives.
  • Experience working with senior executives and boards.
  • Knowledge of one or more African languages.
  • Resource mobilization experience related to health, development, or gender equality.
  • Ability to travel across Sub-Saharan Africa (up to 40% of the time).
