This traineeship will take place within the Political, Press and Information (PPI) Section, which leads on political analysis, communication, press relations, and strategic engagement with the African Union and wider stakeholders.
What the Traineeship Offers
Participants will receive professional experience in an international diplomatic environment, working closely with political officers, communication experts, and policy analysts. Trainees will support the Delegation’s mission of representing EU values and interests, as well as promoting stronger partnerships between Europe and Africa.
This program provides a monthly grant to support living expenses, while travel, accommodation, and insurance are covered by the trainee.
Key Responsibilities for 2025 Fully Funded Traineeship for Young Graduates at the EU Delegation to the African Union
As part of the PPI Section, selected trainees will:
1. Support Political Research and Analysis
- Conduct research on regional and continental political, economic, and governance issues.
- Contribute to internal reports, briefings, and political updates.
- Analyze trends in AU-EU relations to inform policy and communication strategies.
2. Contribute to Communication and Public Diplomacy
- Assist in engagement with the press and media, including mapping key stakeholders.
- Update databases, draft newsletters, and prepare press releases.
- Create content for social media, newsletters, factsheets, and official statements.
- Use tools such as Canva to design audiovisual communication materials.
3. Organize and Support Events
- Assist in planning and organizing internal and external events.
- Provide logistics support during Team Europe communication meetings.
- Take meeting minutes, follow up on action points, and maintain collaboration spaces.
4. Strengthen Stakeholder Engagement
- Support the coordination of communication between EU institutions and AU bodies.
- Liaise with press multipliers and external partners to enhance visibility.
- Contribute to event reports, briefing notes, and stakeholder outreach activities.
Eligibility and Requirements
Applicants must meet the following qualifications:
- Residing in Ethiopia at the time of application.
- A Master’s degree in communication, journalism, political science, international relations, economics, law, or a related field.
- A maximum of one year of work experience.
- Fluency in English (spoken and written).
- A strong understanding of EU–AU politics, governance, and institutional structures.
- Excellent skills in writing, editing, and producing communication content.
- Experience with audiovisual production and design platforms (e.g., Canva).
- Proactive, adaptable, and eager to learn in a fast-paced diplomatic environment.
