PATH is recruiting a Senior Outbreak Response Coordination Lead for its STRengthening Infectious disease DEtection Systems (STRIDES) Project in Bunia, Ituri Province, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The role provides senior technical, operational and coordination support for outbreak preparedness and response activities, with a focus on Ebola Virus Disease and other epidemic- and pandemic-prone diseases.

About the Role

The Senior Outbreak Response Coordination Lead will serve as a field-based coordination focal point for STRIDES-supported outbreak response activities in Eastern DRC.

The position involves working with government health authorities and international partners to ensure response activities are coordinated, technically sound and aligned with government priorities.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

Provide technical and operational leadership for outbreak preparedness and response.
Coordinate with national, provincial and local health authorities.
Work with partners including WHO, Africa CDC, CDC, UNICEF, IOM, MSF and other organizations.
Coordinate activities covering surveillance, case management, contact investigation, logistics and data management.
Provide technical oversight of surveillance, epidemiology, contact tracing and cross-border surveillance.
Support the use of data for outbreak decision-making and mapping.
Lead or support field deployment plans, training, simulations and after-action reviews.
Supervise and mentor field-based staff and consultants.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should have:

An advanced degree in public health, epidemiology, medicine, emergency management, global health, veterinary medicine or a related field.
At least 8 years of progressively responsible experience in outbreak response, epidemic preparedness, surveillance, field epidemiology or global health security.
Demonstrated experience supporting Ebola or another viral hemorrhagic fever response.
Strong experience working in the DRC, preferably Eastern DRC.
Experience working with government health authorities.
Experience coordinating multi-partner responses in complex emergency settings.
Experience with U.S. government-funded or major donor-funded health projects is strongly preferred.
Strong communication, facilitation, negotiation and supervisory skills.
Fluency in French.
Working English is strongly preferred, while Swahili is highly desirable.
Willingness to be based in Bunia and travel frequently to outbreak-affected locations.
