Overview: UNRWA Data Collection Assignment 2025

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) has opened applications for a Daily Paid Data Collection Assignment based in Damascus, Syria.

This short-term role supports the Protection Programme with data management, analysis, reporting, and information systems support. It offers a strong entry pathway into humanitarian data work within one of the UN’s largest operational agencies.

The assignment is open to applicants currently residing in Syria and within commuting distance of Damascus.

Role: Data Collection – Daily Paid Assignment

Duty Station: Damascus
Contract Type: Daily Paid Assignment
Duration: Up to 3 months, with possibility of extension
Supervision: Protection Team Leader (P4)
Daily Rate: USD 35.97
Benefits:

  • 1 day annual leave per completed month
  • 1 day sick leave per completed month

Key Responsibilities

Data Collection staff will support the Protection Programme across the following areas:

1. Project Monitoring and Data Tracking (25%)

  • Manage project workflows with the Protection Team Leader
  • Coordinate with HQ to ensure databases meet operational needs

2. Data Analysis and Reporting (25%)

  • Compile and analyze data for monthly and emergency reports
  • Support the Strategic Plan indicators
  • Assist with best practices and lessons-learned documentation

3. User Engagement & Business Process Improvement (15%)

  • Work with end users to enhance data transparency
  • Contribute to improved profiling by combining multiple data streams

4. Protection Reporting (15%)

  • Draft reports on violations in UNRWA installations
  • Support protection monitoring and humanitarian principles tracking

5. Trend Monitoring and Ad-Hoc Analysis (10%)

  • Respond to internal and external data inquiries

6. Report Design & System Support (5%)

  • Assist with the creation and maintenance of complex data reports

7. Additional Assigned Duties (5%)


Required Competencies

  • Strong data collection and reporting skills
  • Ability to draft/edit reports in English and Arabic
  • Technical skills in information analysis and data visualization

Eligibility Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in:
    • Social sciences
    • International relations
    • Data management
    • Political affairs
    • Or related fields

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in:
    • Data management
    • Humanitarian operations
    • Human rights or protection reporting
    • Relief or emergency response work

Languages

  • English: Required (UN Level II reading, writing, listening, speaking)
  • Arabic: Required for drafting and communication
  • French: Not required

Additional Conditions

  • Only candidates residing in Syria and able to commute to Damascus are eligible.
  • Preference is given to registered Palestine refugees and women to support UNRWA’s gender parity goals.
  • Candidates must provide full disclosure of all outside activities or employment.
  • UNRWA does not assist with work permits; candidates must already be legally allowed to work in Syria.
