Role overview
Support the GIZ sector project “Promoting Sustainable Development through Cooperation with the United Nations”. The internship provides exposure to multilateral governance, UN reform processes, BMZ advisory work and project knowledge management. Main responsibilities
Research & policy support
- Prepare technical/advisory documents (status reports, briefs, evaluations) for BMZ (UN Unit 403).
- Conduct technical research on UN entities (UNDP, UNFPA, UN Women, UNICEF, etc.).
- Analyze UN reform processes (Our Common Agenda, Funding Compact, RC System Reform).
Meeting & event support
- Prepare materials for executive council meetings of multilateral organizations.
- Support planning and delivery of strategic dialogues, specialist events and stakeholder workshops.
- Take meeting minutes and follow up on action points.
Knowledge management & monitoring
- Maintain the project monitoring system and support internal knowledge management.
- Trend-scouting: observe and summarise developments inside the UN system.
- Contribute to project documentation and information products.
Communications & outreach
- Draft intranet/BMZ articles, social media content, graphics and banners.
- Support event communications and produce short written outputs for internal/external audiences.
Who should apply (profile)
Academic background
- Enrolled in political science, international relations, economics, communication studies, or a closely related field.
- Internship must be part of study requirements or degree awarded within 6 months prior to start date.
Skills & experience
- Good knowledge of UN mechanisms and multilateral cooperation.
- Analytical and text-oriented: ability to produce high-quality written outputs in German and English.
- Strong self-organisation, flexibility, teamwork, and a willingness to learn.
- Prior internship or work experience at an international organisation or German international actor is desirable.
- Interest and some experience in communications is an advantage.
Languages
- Excellent written and spoken German and English.
- Knowledge of another UN language is a plus.
