Background & Job Description

The Country Financial Controller will manage Concern Worldwide’s finance function in Sierra Leone and report to the Country Director.

The role includes maintaining effective financial systems and controls, managing the finance team, overseeing partner finances, supporting financial planning and ensuring accurate reporting for grants and donors.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

Maintaining effective internal financial controls and accounting systems.
Monitoring cash, banking, ledgers and balance sheet reconciliations.
Preparing country and donor budgets and financial reports.
Supporting monthly management accounts and variance analysis.
Overseeing donor financial reporting and compliance.
Managing and developing the country finance team.
Providing financial training to finance and non-finance staff.
Monitoring programme expenditure against approved budgets.
Supporting financial assessments of potential partners.
Conducting field visits and improving financial systems where required.
Maintaining appropriate financial documentation and audit trails.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should have an accountancy qualification, such as CPA, ACA or ACCA.

The organisation also requests:

At least three years of post-qualification experience with Concern Worldwide or a similar organisation, preferably as international staff.
Experience developing staff capacity in technical and management areas.
Experience managing large, multi-donor programme budgets, particularly involving donors such as ECHO and OCHA.
Strong financial management, planning and organisational skills.
Good communication, negotiation and training abilities.
Good knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
Familiarity with ERP systems, including Unit4, formerly known as Agresso.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Cross-cultural awareness and adaptability.

Salary and Contract

The position offers a salary of €51,861 to €57,623 under the GB7 salary grade.

The appointment is a two-year, full-time fixed-term contract and is described as accompanied. The position is fully office based in Freetown and involves regular travel to other programme locations in Sierra Leone.
