The Research Manager will work closely with a team embedded within an Ethiopian government office, combining research with practical programme delivery.

Responsibilities

The Research Manager will:

Contribute to new research ideas and programme design.
Manage research activities across multiple projects.
Lead research from study design through implementation, analysis and dissemination.
Design, pilot and scale evidence-backed digital agriculture services.
Translate research evidence into practical programme recommendations.
Oversee data management, surveys and A/B testing.
Manage relationships with government and research partners.
Support IRB protocols and research permissions.
Contribute to funding proposals, reports and communications.
Mentor Associate and Manager-level staff.

Qualifications

Applicants should have a Master’s degree or PhD in economics, agricultural economics, public policy or a related field.

The role also requires professional experience on at least three large projects involving rigorous research and evidence-based programmes in low- and middle-income countries.

Candidates should have:

Strong knowledge of economics and randomized evaluations.
Experience with Stata, R or similar software.
Experience with SurveyCTO, ODK or similar survey tools.
Research management or mentoring experience.
Experience working with government agencies, research institutions or development organizations.
Strong written and spoken English.
Willingness to travel to field sites in Ethiopia.

Fluency in Amharic is an advantage.
