The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) is hiring a Managing Director, Sustainable Debt in Washington, D.C. The senior leadership role sits within WWF’s Nature Finance and Investment team and focuses on mobilizing financing from debt markets for nature and conservation priorities.

The Managing Director will lead WWF’s global sustainable debt strategy, including debt conversions, sustainability-linked bonds and loans, and other sustainable debt instruments.

The role involves working with sovereign governments, companies, financial institutions, philanthropic organizations and multilateral partners to develop and execute major sustainable finance transactions.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

Lead WWF’s global sustainable debt portfolio and identify new transaction opportunities.
Develop corporate debt strategies using science-based sustainability indicators.
Manage large and complex debt transactions.
Lead a growing Nature Finance and Investment team.
Manage budgets, priorities and staff development.
Represent WWF in external and market-facing forums.
Build relationships with investors, banks, corporations, sovereign partners and other stakeholders.
Support donor fundraising and mobilize investor capital for transactions.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should have:

An advanced degree, preferably in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, International Relations, Political Science or a related field.
At least 15 years of relevant experience in finance, international finance, debt capital markets, development finance or a comparable field.
Strong knowledge of nature finance instruments such as debt-for-nature swaps, sustainability-linked bonds and blended finance.
Experience negotiating complex financial and legal arrangements.
A proven record of building partnerships with sovereign, corporate, multilateral and financial institutions.
Experience leading multidisciplinary and multicultural teams.
Experience working in or with the Global South.
Fluency in English. Spanish and other languages are desirable.

The position may involve up to 25% domestic and international travel.
