What Does the Research Program Manager Do?
The Research Program Manager will help maximize the impact of research teams at the Institute for Disease Modeling.
The successful candidate will work with research managers and leadership to define, prioritize and manage research projects across one or more portfolios. The position requires an ability to understand research priorities and communicate them effectively to researchers, engineers, partners and other stakeholders.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing multiple research portfolios and projects.
- Supporting resource allocation and progress oversight.
- Tracking risks, milestones and deliverables.
- Connecting research portfolios with organizational priorities.
- Working with software teams and technical programme managers.
- Synthesizing research findings and emerging insights.
- Developing effective programme processes and frameworks.

- Coordinating communication across research, software and leadership teams.
The role requires someone who can quickly develop an understanding of research areas and emerging modelling technologies and use that knowledge to support programme planning and decision-making.
Research and Global Health Experience
The position is designed for an experienced and adaptable professional with an interest in impact-driven global health work.
Candidates should have at least a Bachelor’s degree, while a graduate degree is preferred. Experience in complex or multidisciplinary research management, particularly in global health and development, would be advantageous.
Applicants should have five or more years of programme management experience and a demonstrated record of managing complex initiatives and delivering results across multiple projects.
An understanding of research processes and best practices is also important. Candidates should be comfortable applying research management principles to complex programmes and supporting teams in achieving research objectives.
Technology and Communication Skills
The Research Program Manager will work closely with software teams and therefore should have familiarity with software product or tool development workflows.
The ability to participate effectively in requirements and roadmap discussions is valuable for the position.
Strong communication skills are equally important. The successful candidate should be able to translate scientific insights into programme implications and communicate complex information to stakeholders at different levels.
The role also requires strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, including the capacity to synthesize complex information, make data-driven decisions and work effectively in situations involving ambiguity.
Salary and Relocation
The salary range for the position is $143,000 to $214,400 USD.
For roles based in Seattle and Washington, D.C., the salary range is higher, at $157,300 to $235,900 USD. Actual salary placement depends on the candidate’s skills, experience and expertise.
This is a 24-month Limited Term Employment position, and relocation to Seattle will be provided.
The successful candidate should also be able to travel up to 20% domestically and internationally.
