FAO Is Hiring Assistant FAO Representative (Programme) 2027 in Tonga

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is inviting applications for the position of Assistant FAO Representative (Programme) based in Nuku’alofa, Tongatapu, Tonga. Key Responsibilities

The selected candidate will:

  • Coordinate FAO programme and project implementation.
  • Support programme development and resource mobilization.
  • Build partnerships with governments, UN agencies, donors, academia, civil society, and the private sector.
  • Develop project proposals and monitor programme implementation.
  • Collect and manage agricultural, forestry, fisheries, and food security data.
  • Prepare policy studies, technical reports, and development frameworks.
  • Promote FAO’s mandate through communication, advocacy, and outreach.
  • Support gender mainstreaming across programme activities.
  • Provide policy and technical advice on agriculture and food systems.
  • Guide programme staff on reporting, documentation, and FAO compliance procedures.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be a national of Tonga.
  • Hold either:
    • A Master’s degree with at least three years of relevant professional experience, or
    • A Bachelor’s degree with at least five years of relevant experience.
  • Have qualifications in agriculture, agricultural economics, forestry, fisheries, natural resources, rural development, business administration, international relations, or a related field.
  • Demonstrate experience in programme planning, project implementation, and technical cooperation related to food and agriculture.
  • Have working proficiency in English and Tongan.
