Position Overview

Job Title: Director of Human Resources and Administration

Location: Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa

Application Deadline: 10 July 2026

Start Date: ASAP

Contract: Three (3) years, renewable once based on successful completion of the first mandate.


About the Role

The Director of Human Resources and Administration serves as a member of the Leadership Team and provides strategic oversight of all HR functions across MSF Southern Africa.

The successful candidate will lead organizational transformation, workforce planning, talent development, employee engagement, and HR governance while collaborating with multiple international MSF operational centres and partner offices.

The role oversees five major HR functions:

  • Domestic/Office Human Resources
  • Field Human Resources
  • Learning & Development
  • Rewards & Benefits
  • Organizational Development and HR Strategy

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Develop and implement MSF Southern Africa’s HR strategy.
  • Advise executive leadership on workforce planning and organizational design.
  • Lead organizational change and transformation initiatives.
  • Strengthen leadership development and succession planning.
  • Oversee HR policies, governance, compliance, and employee relations.
  • Build an inclusive and high-performing workplace culture.
  • Lead compensation, rewards, and benefits strategies.
  • Promote employee wellbeing and engagement.
  • Use workforce analytics to support strategic decision-making.
  • Represent MSF Southern Africa within international HR forums and partnerships.

Required Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

  • Degree or Diploma (NQF Level 7) in Human Resources Management or a related discipline.
  • Master’s Degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred).
  • 5–10 years of progressive HR experience.
  • Minimum five years in senior HR leadership.
  • Experience leading organizational transformation and restructuring.
  • Experience within humanitarian, NGO, development, or international organizations is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of international HR standards and frameworks.
