Background & Job Description

The Communications Officer – Donor Engagement will help Hivos engage, retain and grow its community of private donors in the Netherlands.

The position combines donor stewardship, content creation, storytelling, campaign coordination, website management, events and partnerships. The role also involves adapting international content for Dutch audiences and maintaining Hivos’ Dutch tone of voice and brand presence.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

Develop donor communication plans and monthly newsletters.
Coordinate annual direct-mail campaigns.
Create online and offline communication materials.
Develop donor-focused stories explaining Hivos’ impact.
Adapt complex programme information into accessible content.
Coordinate donor events, partnerships and visibility activities.
Manage Dutch-language website content.
Optimise website content for supporter engagement and fundraising.
Collaborate with fundraising, communications, programme and digital teams.
Adapt global campaigns for Dutch audiences.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in Communications, Marketing, Fundraising, Journalism, Public Relations or a related field.

The vacancy also requires:

3–5 years of relevant experience in fundraising, donor communications, marketing or stakeholder engagement.
Strong writing and storytelling skills.
Fluency in Dutch.
Experience creating communication materials across multiple channels.
Experience coordinating events, partnerships or engagement activities.
Experience with content creation and storytelling.
Experience using website CMS and email marketing platforms.
Strong relationship-building, planning and project management skills.
