The Project Officer – Central Asia Nature-based Solutions opportunity is with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The position focuses on managing Nature-based Solutions (NbS) projects across Eastern Europe and Central Asia, with particular emphasis on agriculture and agricultural landscapes.

The fixed-term position is expected to start on December 1, 2026, and is offered for up to 12 months, with the possibility of renewal.

The Project Officer will work under the Nature-based Solutions Programme Manager and support the IUCN ECARO NbS Programme.

The role involves coordinating projects, supporting the application of the IUCN Global Standard for Nature-based Solutions, developing partnerships and promoting NbS approaches in the agriculture sector.

The position will also work with IUCN teams, thematic centres, Commission members, national authorities, research institutions and other partners.

Tasks

Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating multiple NbS projects across different stages of the project cycle.
  • Preparing and monitoring project work plans and budgets.
  • Preparing technical and financial reports.
  • Supporting project procurement and service contracts.
  • Overseeing external experts and field activities.
  • Managing project-related partnerships.
  • Supporting events and project logistics.
  • Promoting IUCN NbS knowledge tools and standards.
  • Supporting financial monitoring and reporting.
  • Identifying new funding opportunities.
  • Contributing to new project proposals.
  • Representing IUCN ECARO at relevant events and meetings.
  • Supporting regional strategic planning and programme coordination.

The position also requires frequent travel within the region, sometimes at short notice.

Qualifications

Education and Certification

Applicants should have a Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, agriculture, nature conservation or a related field.

Experience

Candidates should have:

  • 5–7 years of relevant experience in environment, agriculture and/or nature conservation.
  • Experience with international projects and donor reporting.
  • Experience managing international projects.
  • Knowledge of ECARO regional nature conservation policies and frameworks.
  • Familiarity with IUCN standards and tools, including the IUCN Global Standard on NbS, ROAM and PRAGA methodologies.
  • Experience working in Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
  • Strong organisational and documentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Fluency in English and Uzbek/Russian.
  • Strong integrity, reliability and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to travel frequently within the region.
