Relief International is hiring an Advocacy & Communications Coordinator in Damascus, Syria. The role provides strategic leadership for advocacy and external communications across the organization’s Syria program, with travel of up to 50% within Syria.

About the Role

The coordinator will develop and oversee an Advocacy and Communications Strategy focused on humanitarian goals and evidence-based advocacy.

The role connects program evidence with advocacy messages, policy engagement, media activities and communications. It also involves engagement with humanitarian coordination platforms, donors and diplomatic actors.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

Lead the Advocacy and Communications Strategy for Syria.
Provide humanitarian analysis and policy advice to senior management.
Draft position papers, policy briefs and key messages.
Represent Relief International with UN agencies, donors and diplomatic stakeholders.
Build strategic relationships with external partners.
Identify advocacy issues and opportunities with program teams.
Integrate advocacy into program development and proposals.
Oversee communications content, case studies and campaign materials.
Manage communications guidelines and donor visibility requirements.
Monitor communications-related risks and budgets.
Mentor communications staff and field-based focal points.
Support internal communications and team capacity building.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should have:

An advanced degree in Political Science, International Development, Journalism, Law or a related field.
At least 5 years of advocacy and communications experience in humanitarian contexts.
Experience with high-level advocacy and policy influence in conflict settings.
Excellent writing and editing skills.
Strong understanding of the Syrian humanitarian context and Middle East geopolitics.
Knowledge of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights Law.
Strong interpersonal, coordination and relationship-building skills.

Arabic proficiency, experience with consortia and inter-agency advocacy, team management experience, and donor engagement knowledge are desirable.
