The WHO Technical Officer (Polio) Jobs 2026 opportunity is based in Islamabad, Pakistan, within the WHO Polio Eradication and Vaccine Preventable Diseases programme. The full-time P4 role focuses on polio eradication, immunization, disease surveillance and vaccine-preventable disease control.

The Technical Officer will provide technical and implementation support to national and subnational programmes working on immunization and vaccine-preventable diseases.

Key Responsibilities

The Technical Officer will:

Support national immunization strategies and polio emergency action plans.
Help plan and monitor routine and supplementary immunization activities.
Support preparedness and response to polio and other vaccine-preventable disease outbreaks.
Strengthen disease surveillance and laboratory networks.
Analyse epidemiological, immunization and programme-performance data.
Support vaccine forecasting, supply, cold-chain and logistics planning.
Develop technical guidance, training materials and monitoring tools.
Support capacity-building for national and subnational health workers.
Contribute to operational research, programme reviews and evaluations.
Support integration of polio activities with routine immunization and primary healthcare.
Work with governments, WHO teams, GPEI, UN agencies, donors and development partners.
Represent WHO at technical meetings and prepare reports and briefings.

Qualifications and Experience

Education

Applicants must have a Master’s degree in a relevant field such as:

Public health
Epidemiology
Immunization
Vaccinology
Health sciences
Infectious or communicable disease control
Global health
International development

A first university degree in medicine or another health-related science is desirable, as is professional training in areas such as field epidemiology, polio eradication, immunization programme management or outbreak response.

Experience

The vacancy requires:

At least 7 years of progressively responsible professional experience in public health.
At least 4 years of experience in disease eradication, immunization, vaccine-preventable disease surveillance/control or infectious-disease prevention and control.
Experience supporting national or subnational programmes.
Experience analysing programme and surveillance data.
Experience translating technical guidance into implementation.
International exposure in multicultural or geographically diverse settings.

Experience with WHO, UN organisations, international NGOs, GPEI or immunization partners is desirable.

Salary and Benefits
