The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has officially launched its 2025–2026 Call for Proposals, inviting civil society organizations, NGOs and community-based groups to apply for grants aimed at accelerating SDG Localization in Thailand. Supported by the Ministry of Interior and the European Union, this programme funds innovative, inclusive and sustainable community projects across five priority provinces.

Background

Thailand has been advancing SDG Localization since 2019, with UNDP supporting provincial SDG profiling, data strengthening and community-led development. The new Strengthening SDG Localization in Thailand Phase II (SDG-L 2.0) for 2025–2026 expands these efforts by deepening engagement in:

  • Chiang Mai
  • Chiang Rai
  • Tak
  • Narathiwat
  • Bangkok

This phase emphasizes inclusive development, resilience, climate risk reduction, and empowering marginalized communities.


Purpose of the Grant Programme

The grant aims to:

  • Support local projects aligned with provincial SDG indicators
  • Strengthen awareness of SDGs and SDG Localization
  • Build capacity among civil society, community members, and vulnerable groups
  • Encourage cross-sector collaboration for sustainable local solutions
  • Promote gender equality, human rights, climate action and inclusive decision-making

Up to five CSOs will be selected, each receiving technical support and financial assistance.


Scope and Priority Areas

Projects must align with the SDG Profiles of the targeted provinces. Organizations may propose innovative interventions addressing one or more of the following themes:

Cross-Cutting Requirements

All proposals must integrate:

  • Inclusiveness and non-discrimination
  • Gender equality
  • Green jobs and green entrepreneurship
  • Leaving no one behind (LNOB)
  • Participation of vulnerable groups

Organizations are encouraged to form coalitions and design scalable, community-led innovations.


Eligibility Criteria

Eligible applicants include:

  • Non-profit organizations
  • Civil society organizations
  • Community-based organizations
  • Social enterprises (non-profit)
  • Organizations legally registered in Thailand

Applicants must:

  • Have 3–5 years of proven experience in relevant areas
  • Be able to show financial statements for the last 3 years
  • Demonstrate experience working with provincial/local authorities
  • Have experience handling similar project budgets
  • (Optional) Apply as a coalition with support letters

Funding Amount and Eligible Costs

Grant Size

  • Up to USD 15,000 per project
  • Co-funding and in-kind contributions are encouraged

Eligible Costs

  • Salaries/honoraria (max 25% of total budget)
  • Trainings and workshops
  • Translation, printing, materials
  • Online platforms or digital tools
  • Rental and utilities directly linked to project activities
  • Monitoring and evaluation activities

Ineligible Costs

  • Infrastructure construction
  • Office utilities or overheads
  • Equipment not directly related to the project

Project Timeline

  • Maximum implementation period: 6 months
  • Starts from contract signing until completion of all activities

Selection Process

Applications will be evaluated by a Grant Selection Board consisting of:

  • UNDP
  • Ministry of Interior
  • NESDC
  • European Union
  • Technical experts

Scoring Criteria (100 points total)

  • Relevance to provincial SDG indicators – 40 points
  • Feasible budget & timeline – 20 points
  • Sustainability & scalability – 20 points
  • Inclusion, gender equality & participation – 20 points

Top-scoring projects will be awarded until the total funding envelope is exhausted. Additional strong proposals may be placed on a reserve list.
