  • Japanese nationals who have lived outside Japan for at least 10 years and have remained actively engaged in research during that period are also eligible to apply.

Researchers may receive a JSPS Invitational Fellowship multiple times, provided they continue to meet the eligibility requirements.

Host Institution Requirement

Applications must be submitted through a host institution in Japan.

Applicants should first identify and secure a Japanese host researcher and institution willing to sponsor their fellowship application.

Because host institutions often have internal submission deadlines, applicants are encouraged to begin discussions with potential hosts well in advance of the official deadline.

Application Deadline

  • Application Deadline: 28 August 2026 (5:00 p.m. JST)

Applications must be submitted through the JSPS Tokyo electronic application system by the host institution.
