About the Programme Officer Role

The Programme Officer will support the management of approximately £14 million per year in charitable trust income across a large number of International Secretariat projects.

The role requires close coordination with programme teams to ensure that allocated funding is used for the selected projects and that progress and expenditure are accurately tracked. The postholder will also identify and report projects that deviate from their original purpose.

The position involves working with Amnesty UK, Amnesty Canada, International Secretariat trustees, senior leadership, International Finance and Global Strategy & Governance teams.

The role can involve tight deadlines, particularly during periods when proposals and reports are being prepared.

Key Responsibilities

The Programme Officer will manage assessment income grants supporting projects across the International Secretariat. This includes coordinating grant management activities with programme staff, Global Strategy and Governance and International Finance.

The successful candidate will help develop funding proposals and reports and ensure that Amnesty UK, Amnesty Canada and other relevant stakeholders receive the information required for trustee meetings.

The role may also involve providing updates and fundraising materials about projects funded through assessment grants and attending trustee meetings when requested.

Another important responsibility will be working with the International Finance team to prepare financial reports for trustees and senior leadership. The Programme Officer will support budgetary control, track income against targets, contribute to budget forecasts and monitor income and expenditure.

The postholder will also review monthly financial reports to identify and help resolve budget issues.

Skills and Experience

Amnesty International is looking for candidates with proven experience working as a Programme Officer, Project Coordinator or in a similar role.

Applicants should have experience in project management and planning, preferably within a membership organisation. The role requires the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while coordinating diverse stakeholders and activities.

Candidates should have strong knowledge and experience across project management, including work planning, budgeting, monitoring progress, meeting milestones and identifying risks and opportunities.

Experience working collaboratively and facilitating project teams with different interests is also important. Candidates should be comfortable working towards specific objectives and deadlines.

The role also requires the ability to manage a heavy and varied workload while maintaining accuracy and a high level of output.
